NEWINGTON CHURCHES

Christians in Scotland work together in many ways. Formally the main denominations are linked through Action of Churches Together in Scotland (ACTS). Based in Alloa ACTS informs and coordinates Christian groups in Scotland, provides a news service and publications, and organises larger events like the recent Scottish Ecumenical Gathering in Perth. There is also helpful advice on Faith in Politics and a Churches Political Officer who reviews and reports on issues at the Scottish Parliament

Similar groupings happen in a smaller way at local level as in Edinburgh Churches Together (ECT) and local church groups such as Newington Churches Together (NCT)

Much more interesting and exciting are the many new ways of being church together. Sometimes these are groups gathered for a particular project like the group going to
Kyrgyzstan this July (see News); or the Coracle Trust -a fellowship of young adults; or perhaps working in different environments-prisons, hospitals and shopping centres. Some of these stories are being gathered together on the ECT website and we are also gathering such links (Communities)

THE LOCAL CHURCHES
The local Churches listed below include the main denomiations, an Independent Church and Student Chaplaincies, some of whom are part of Newington Churches Together (NCT) The names given refer to the Church families who meet in these Church Buildings- Church is the people not a building!

WHAT HAPPENS?
You may want to know what happens in these church gatherings. Church people worship in differing ways, with different sorts of music (or none); they also meet socially--There are activities for the young and the old, and everyone in between,
Some of these are here. If you want to know more please contact the Church involved.

Prayer initiatives

Praying for the Scottish Parliament
'The core prayer group meets in Edinburgh on Wednesday mornings every week while parliament is in session. In the afternoon we pray inside the chamber while the time for reflection is being held. PPS has been praying consistently for the parliament for the past seven years. We pray for wisdom for MSPs, for their health and that of their families and also for the security of the parliament building. As we pray into the remit of each MSP we also end up praying into every aspect of Scottish life.' More

Prayer for Edinburgh

Healing Rooms The worldwide vision for Healing Rooms is to see places open up in towns and cities where people can come and receive healing prayer (for both physical and emotional issues). The people ministering are simply believers from any church denomination who have been trained in this area and who have a heart and desire to pray for the sick.
Local meeting place is Craigour Community Health Flat,
1 Little France House [Multi-map]
Every Thursday 11.30am - 1.00pm
Local leaders are Tom & Marjory Morrow
